Why we do what we do
Over 350,000 individuals suffer from out of hospital cardiac arrests each year in the US alone. While individuals in racial minorities or in low socioeconomic communities are more likely to experience out of hospital cardiac arrest, they are significantly less likely to receive bystander CPR. Initiation of bystander CPR has been proven to double chances of survival for victims of out of hospital cardiac arrests. While a variety of factors contribute to this disparity in provision of bystander CPR, lack of accessible and affordable CPR courses in underserved communities is a major obstacle. The CPR Equality Initiative seeks to improve survival rates for victims of cardiac arrest and empower communities to act during cardiac emergencies through free, quality CPR training.
